Stasiun Gambir in Central Jakarta was bustling with travelers heading home for Eid al-Fitr, with just four days left until the celebration. These travelers, who were seen waiting for their trains at the southern part of Gambir Station on Thursday (March 27, 2025) at 5:20 PM local time, had brought gifts from Jakarta for their families in their hometowns.
Some passengers were carrying suitcases and medium to large-sized bags, while others had gifts packed in cardboard boxes. A few were also seen hiring porters to assist with carrying their belongings onto the trains.
Among them, Tiara (27), who was bound for Bandung, mentioned that she brought trendy Jakarta snacks as gifts for her family. She specifically brought “mentai” (cod roe) dim sum, stating that while it’s available in Bandung, it tastes better in Jakarta.
Another traveler, Syifa (32), on her way to her husband’s family in Surabaya, brought a layer cake known as “lapis legit” as a gift.
Arif (32), who was traveling to Semarang, didn’t carry food souvenirs. Instead, he brought his younger brother’s requested gift – a pair of shoes that were purchased during a recent sale.
